One Direction star Niall Horan has praised X Factor winner James Arthur and suggested that he has a big career ahead of him.

The singer was victorious on last night's (December 9) X Factor final, beating off competition from Jahmene Douglas.

One Direction performed on the show and it seems the musician has had something of an effect on Irishman Horan, who tweeted after the event:

"Xfactor was great tonight! So good t be back home! Also congrats james ! This dude is gona be huge."

Reports suggest, however, that the viewing figures for the weekend's show were X Factor's worst ratings for a final since 2006.

One Direction meanwhile have been named as the most in-demand act to come from the X Factor in terms of ticket sales.
