One Direction named MTV's Best Boyband of 2012

One Direction have landed another end of year honour.

The group have already been named as Billboard's Top New Artist of 2012 - and now they are MTV's Best Boyband of the year.

It comes in addition to MTV already calling One Direction their favourite artist of the year.

The quintet have had an emphatic rise to fame over the last year, with numerous tours taking place around the globe and the release of their second album 'Take Me Home'.

MTV now have picked the Brits as the best boyband out there - and writing on their website, they said that 'Direction Infection' has taken over the world. They said:

"The [Direction] Infection is the feeling you get when you hear the flawless blending of those five voices, or the feeling you get when you watch their quirky 'Live While We're Young' video, while they groove to their signature rowboat move or bop each other with giant blow-up fruit."

They continued: "It's the feeling you get when you see Harry, Louis, Niall, Zayn and Liam perform on the Today show, live and in front of your eyes, displaying their oh-so adorable dimples, carefully ironed blazers and retro suspenders (it's not like you camped out all weekend for it or anything). It's the feeling you get after engraving your binder with a fresh 'Future Mrs. Payne' doodle."
