One Direction visit "eye-opening" Africa for Comic Relief

One Direction have visited Africa for Comic Relief - and it seems it had a stark effect on the five pop stars.

The group teamed up this year for the massive annual Red Nose Day charity event, with the former X Factor stars releasing the official 2013 single - a cover of Blondie's 'One Way Or Another'.

Rumours had emanated on Twitter that the band were recently in Africa to visit local people and see first-hand the need for charity work.

Niall Horan confirmed the news on Twitter today (January 15), saying:

"Just arrived back from Accra, Ghana! Best life experience ever! This @rednoseday please get involved! I've seen the slums right in front of me! This is no joke! They really need your help. Poverty is real. Massive thanks to @rednoseday for taking us to Ghana! It was incredible! real eye opener! We take so much for granted over here!"

He continued: "Watch comic relief this @rednoseday, you are in for a shock and eye opener! and fun too."

Liam Payne meanwhile tweeted: "Having the most amazing few days of my life!"

This year's Red Nose Day will take place on March 15.
