One Direction and Selena Gomez crack US Billboard charts

One Direction's new single has performed well in the US chart.

Their track 'Best Song Ever' has hit No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100, narrowly defeated by Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines'.

It's their highest placed US single yet, beating 2012 track 'Live While We're Young', which charted at No.3. They are still seeking their first full No.1 song in the country.

However, 'Best Song Ever' did hit the top spot in Billboard's Digital Songs category after shifting 322,000 downloads.

In the albums chart meanwhile, Selena Gomez's new effort 'Stars Dance' hit No.1 after its first week of release.

It's her first album purely as a solo artist, with her three previous Selena Gomez & The Scene records all hitting the US top ten between 2009 and 2011.
