One Direction admit they were asked to sing in American accents

One Direction have revealed that their label thinks they sometimes sound "too English" for their US audience.

The British-Irish group have become a huge success Stateside over the last year and have truly captured the imagination of the massive market.

However, they told the Mirror that they have previously been asked to sound more American in an attempt to achieve fame in the US. Liam Payne commented:

“I don't think you can really sing in a British accent. I think it’s a bit hard and sometimes a bit forced. Singing is an imitation at the end of the day, it’s the way you put things across.”

Harry Styles meanwhile believes that American singing accents can be acquired from the music you listened to as a youth, adding:

"I have a theory...I think it’s all on who you grew up listening to and who your parents listened to. So when you sing, you’re singing along with them. I think you just apply that and you have that idea of singing."
