One Direction star Liam Payne has opened up on his recent brush with Lady Gaga.

Both acts attended the recent MTV VMAs and they happened to bump into each other whilst the boyband were speaking live to camera backstage.

Gaga then gave the group words of encouragement after some members of the ceremony's audience booed when they collected an award.

Speaking about the 'Applause' star to E!, Payne said:

"She was very nice actually. She came and spoke to us for a little while."

He added: "She said, 'Just don't listen to it', really. At the end of the day, we're just happy we won the award, so we get to take home the Moonman!"
