One Direction's Story of My Life was released on October 28 in 2013 by Syco Music and Columbia Records as the second single from the group's third album, Midnight Memories.

One Direction co-writer, Jamie Scott, who helped the lads write their new single, Story of My Life, has spoken about their reaction upon hearing the cut for the very first time.

During an interview with MTV News, it was revealed that as soon as Story of My Life was played for the boys, they were so excited, they wanted to help finish the lyrics.

"They freaked out! It's always good to have their input on lyrics".

Referring to the loose folk-inspired sound in the song, he added that with the group's collective talent, it was obvious that experimenting with genres should be the next step:

"It's not that hard a thing to do because the boys have really good voices, they've all got very different voices.

"Harry [Styles'] rasp is something that you can always lean towards... All the boys have such a great sound themselves.

"For instance the demo that we played the boys sounds a lot more folky than it does now. That's what's amazing about their voices [when they record it] straight away it sounds like them."

The interview concluded with the prediction that Story of My Life had the potential to be One Direction's crowning glory:

"I think I probably enjoyed writing this song the most of any track with the boys.

"It had a real timeless thing to it, and I think it's something you can hear being played in 10 years' time."
