One Direction donate £20k toybox to young cancer patients

One Direction have put £20,000 towards a box of toys for young cancer patients at a Scottish hospital.

The lads chipped together some cash the the kids at Ninewells Hospital's oncology department in Dundee.

Fundraiser Charlie Kean got in touch with Zayn Malik's mother Tricia to see if the 'Best Song Ever' group could help out.

Their gift is expected to contain toys, signed merchandise and VIP concert tickets.

It's the second year One Direction have done such an act and Kean praised the group for taking part once again. He said:

"It’s amazing they’re getting involved to help desperately ill children. Last year’s box was filled with toys but there were also signed programmes, merchandise and tickets. The array of emotions from the children that went to the gig was unbelievable. I don’t think they’ve ever been as happy or excited."

Tricia Malik commented: "It’s amazing to be able to see what a big difference these toys and gifts are making to kids’ lives."

One Direction meanwhile recently contributed a song to a 39-track compilation album designed to raise funds for the Philippines typhoon relief fund.
