One Direction achieve third US No.1 with 'Midnight Memories'

One Direction's new album 'Midnight Memories' has hit No.1 in the US.

This means that they are the first group since the Monkees in 1967 to have their first three records reach No.1 in the country.

The album sold a total of 530,377 units in its first week on sale, reports Hits Daily Double.

This is down, however, on 2012's 'Take Me Home', which sold 540,000 over the same time period.

One Direction's 2011 debut 'Up All Night' meanwhile shifted 176,000 copies in its first week on sale.

The top spot success of 'Midnight Memories' is replicated across the pond, with the album hitting No.1 instantly in the UK.

At No.2 on this week's Billboard chart meanwhile is Eminem's 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' whilst Garth Brooks' 'Blame It All On My Roots' is No.3.
