One Direction outsell Rolling Stones in 2013 ticket battle

UK based boyband One Direction have been named Viagogo's most searched-for act for gig tickets this year, beating tough competition from the likes of Kings of Leon and rock icons, Rolling Stones

The heartthrobs attracted over half a million searches on the ticketing website following the announcement of their forthcoming 2014 tour within just 24 hours.

Viagogo's Steve Roest explained the lads' rising popularity where their live concerts are concerned and admitted that they're able to pull bigger audiences than industry greats, such as the Rolling Stones and The Who: "One Direction's rise to supergroup status has been well and truly established this year. Their ability to draw higher demand than music industry stalwarts like the Rolling Stones and The Who suggests that it's the youth that really hold the power."

"With 1D kicking off their 'Where We Are' European tour next April, we can only imagine the infamous boy band will maintain their dominance and ticket demand will continue to rocket into 2014."

Viagogo's other top-selling artists of 2013 include Fleetwood Mac, Stereophonics, and Arctic Monkeys.
