PRS for Music, the organisation which represents the rights of over 160,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers worldwide, has launched a new series of free ‘Members’ Day’ events set to take place across the UK, providing PRS members with the practical knowledge needed to make strides in their music career.

At each Members’ Day, PRS members will have the chance to come together, meet the PRS team and learn the tricks of the trade, gaining a vital insight into the workings of PRS, royalties, and how new technologies and services are changing the music industry.

The first Members’ Day of 2022 is coming to Tramshed Cardiff on Wednesday 9 March, with further Members’ Days planned for London, Manchester, Belfast and Glasgow.

In Cardiff, activities taking place throughout the day include:

• PRS for Music’s Senior Relationship Manager for Wales, John Hywel Morris, offering advice in a ‘How to get the most out of your PRS Membership’ workshop, alongside pre-booked member surgeries to talk through membership details one on one.

• An in-depth ‘In Conversation With’ discussion between Aberystwyth-based bilingual singer, songwriter and harpist, Georgia Ruth, and Ivor Novello Award-winning singer, songwriter and President of the PRS Members’ Council, Michelle Escoffery, about the art of songwriting and their acclaimed careers as music creators.

• A music industry trade fair, where organisations including Arts Council Wales, The Ivors Academy, Musicians’ Union, Music Publishers Association, PRS Foundation, PRS Members’ Fund, Swansea Grand, Tŷ Cerdd and UK Music will be on hand to discuss how they can support members in their career.

• A Q&A session with PRS for Music’s senior management team.

The day will conclude with networking drinks and a special ‘PRS Presents’ event in partnership with PRS Foundation, seeing exclusive live performances from singer, songwriter, performer and BAFTA-winning storyteller Gruff Rhys with a full band set, alongside PRS Foundation funded artists hip hop and grime rapper, Mace The Great, and punk quintet, Panic Shack.

Michelle Escoffery, President, PRS Members’ Council, said: “The upcoming PRS Members’ Days are a unique opportunity for PRS members to network and connect, get the latest updates from the PRS team, learn the current trends and policies of the music business from experts across the industry and discover first-hand how to get the most out of their membership. We can’t wait to be on the ground in Cardiff for some thought-provoking discussions and live music from an amazing line-up of Welsh music creators.”

John Hywel Morris, Senior Relationship Manager for Wales, PRS for Music, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting the first PRS Members’ Day in Cardiff. There is so much incredible talent in the Welsh music creator community, and this day will be a great way for creators from all genres and backgrounds to get together in person, as we look to build strong relationships between PRS for Music and members across the UK.”

PRS members wishing to attend the Cardiff Members’ Day on 9 March 2022 can register for tickets via Eventbrite.
