Minneapolis, MN – October 11, 2024 – Singer-songwriter Scott Zosel is set to release his highly anticipated live album, Blood Will Tell, on November 2, 2024. Recorded during a sold-out performance at the Center for Performing Arts in South Minneapolis on April 30, 2024, the album captures an unforgettable evening of music, storytelling, and emotional exploration.

The performance, designed as a live recording session, featured a selection of deeply personal songs Zosel had written over the years for family funerals, weddings, births, and other significant milestones. These tender, poignant songs of family love and legacy were enhanced by a mix of storytelling, dance, video, and ambient soundscapes, all backed by a stellar ensemble of musicians.

Zosel reflects on the event: “For months, as we prepared these songs, I thought the show would be about my family. As it turned out, it was about the audience and their own family stories. Something incredible happened that night—something I could never have anticipated.”

The audience response was overwhelmingly emotional, with many attendees sharing their own family stories after the show. Even the musicians, including vocalist Kelly Jordahl, were taken aback by the impact. “The video backdrop was mesmerizing, and the combination of visual, sonic, and lyrical storytelling created an atmosphere I’ve never experienced before,” said Jordahl. “Strangers were coming up to us afterward, opening up about their families. It was unbelievable.”

In early 2025, Zosel plans to release a documentary-style concert video capturing the sights, sounds, and emotional moments from the performance. This video will feature comments from audience members, musicians, and collaborators, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the powerful event.

The Backstory Behind Blood Will Tell

In Zosel’s own words, Blood Will Tell is a deeply personal project. “These songs are about my family—some who are gone, others still with us, and a few I thought were gone but are still pulling at my heart. It’s hard to sing them without tearing up, but stitching them together for this show gave me a way to feel everything—grief, joy, anger, love, and loss. This show will resonate with anyone who loves their family but has struggled with family relationships.”

The album features ten songs, each inspired by a family member and Zosel’s relationship with them. The themes of the songs are universal, addressing family dynamics with tenderness and raw honesty. As Zosel puts it, “Blood Will Tell isn’t just the story of my family, but of all families who love each other in their own imperfect ways.”

About Scott Zosel

Dubbed “a songwriter’s songwriter” by Ellen Stanley, Scott Zosel’s work is inspired by the bold poetry of Emily Dickinson and the psychedelic country sounds of Gram Parsons. A Minneapolis-based artist, Zosel has been celebrated for his artful, fearless storytelling.

Zosel’s musical journey began after he graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in journalism. In the 1980s, he fronted the new wave band Five Below, a lively mix of Ska, Tex-Mex, Surf, and Rock, which earned a strong following on the Twin Cities music scene. After a successful career as a writer and designer, Zosel returned to songwriting, releasing two albums during the pandemic: Coal Black Curls (2020) and Tiny Yellow Room (2021). He continues to garner attention as a top-notch songwriter and has been recognized by Americana UK for his song “Emily.”
