Written as a response to a painful, complicated relationship, “A Song About You” dives deep into the emotional aftermath of betrayal and emotional manipulation. The track is inspired by what Charley initially believed to be a meaningful romantic connection—one ultimately marked by secrecy, half-truths, and gaslighting. After years of emotional confusion and lingering heartache, a chance encounter with the person who hurt her brought an unexpected turning point. He flippantly told her, “You can always write a song about what happened.”

“He trivialized the hurt he caused,” Charley says. “It was typical. He couldn’t see past his own ego. That’s when I realized—he was never really himself with me. He was just mirroring me. The truth is, everything I admired in him were actually qualities I possess.”
