Paul McCartney on Kanye West Brits show: 'He's an artist and it's his prerogative'

Paul McCartney has defended Kanye West's Brit Awards performance.

The US rapper played his new track 'All Day' at the ceremony in London in February.

However, the broadcast was regularly muted because of West's repeated use of the 'N' word.

McCartney collaborated on the studio version of the song and he told Q that West is an "artist" who believes he has "re-appropriated" the word.

He said: "I think he mentions the 'N' word about 40 times. It's controversial, I know, especially with the climate in modern-day America...

"Whether you like what Kanye does or you don't, he's an artist and it's his prerogative. His school of thought is that he's reclaimed the 'N' word, he's re-appropriated it."

McCartney and West meanwhile also worked together on the rapper's 'Only One' and Rihanna's 'FourFiveSeconds'.
