Sir Paul McCartney calls for Ringo Starr to be knighted

Sir Paul McCartney thinks that his former Beatles bandmate, Ringo Starr, was robbed of a knighthood when the list of honoured individuals was recently released.

Talking last night on Absolute Radio, McCartney, who received the exclusive privilege in '97, expressed his disbelief that television personality Bruce Forsyth had been knighted before Starr:

"The last time I went by (Buckingham Palace) she was out. Otherwise I would have popped in and said 'Look, love, Sir Richard Starkey'. Because I do think it’s about time, but she probably was a bit busy with Sir Brucie."

He also revealed that the late John Lennon was the one to "release" the ties of The Beatles, adding:

"Basically me, George and Ringo said 'Does this have to be final, could we do a couple of gigs or can we think about this tomorrow?', but John was off with Yoko and he was saying 'No, no, it's great, I feel a release' and all that. So that was kind of final."
