Pharrell Williams says he wrote his part on 'Get Lucky' "in an hour or so"

Pharrell Williams has been discussing his phenomenal success over the past year.

The N*E*R*D hitmaker dominated the charts over the summer thanks to his spots on Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk’s disco hit ‘Get Lucky’, as well as the No. 1 success of his ‘Despicable Me 2’ tune ‘Happy’.

During a recent interview with Look magazine Pharrell revealed the recording process behind Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’.

Williams explained: “When they got me into the studio, that track was done and they just asked me to write on it. I think I wrote it in an hour or so, but then we did a bunch of takes so they got exactly what they needed.”

He said of the Grammy-winning robot duo: “Those guys are perfectionists.”

When asked if he expected his recent songs to be such runaway successes, he replied:

“No. You only have a sense of what feels good to you personally. The success of a song is predicated on how everybody else feels when they hear it. If they say, 'I like it and I want to tell somebody else about it,' then that is magical.”

Speaking about his plans for the future Pharrell indicated he plans to produce more feel-good hits as he stated:

“There's something to be said for making music that jovial. I tried to tap into that a little last year with these songs because I wanted to make people happy.”
