Pharrell on 'G I R L' album cover: 'There is a black woman in the photograph'

Hitmaker and super producer Pharrell Williams has revealed that he's upset to see people criticising him for not representing black women with the photograph that graces the cover of his new album, 'G I R L', because the woman standing closest to him is black.

He called into Power 105.1's 'The Breakfast Club' earlier this week to hit back at the negative public reaction to the record's official artwork and explained that they made stupid assumptions after glancing at the image (pictured left):

"What really disappointed me is that they jumped the gun, because the one I'm standing the closest to is black. She's a black girl from Wisconsin that I used to date over 10 years ago. And that just must suck man, for people to just look at something and to assume that they know what's going on."

"If they just bothered to listen to my album, they'd know that my album was an ode to women, period. The one thing I was trying to help and aid in changing is this crazy statuesque standard of — you've gotta be white and thin for you to be beautiful."
