Pharrell Williams apologises for wearing Native American headdress

Pharrell Williams has apologised for wearing a Native American headdress on the cover of a magazine.

The US star recently posed for the cameras for Elle UK's July issue, but the choice of headdress was criticised by many.

A number of people spoke out against the apparent cultural appropriation, with one Twitter user saying:

"He really needs to hire a head-wear advisor. Native Americans to Pharrell: We're #NotHappy."

Williams then later apologised in a statement to the New York Daily News, saying:

"I respect and honour every kind of race, background and culture. I am genuinely sorry."

Elle meanwhile previously said about the shoot before changing their tone: "We persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to trade his Vivienne Westwood mountie hat for a native American feather headdress in his best ever shoot."
