Brian May among stars calling for re-election of Green Party MP

Brian May is one of many stars who have signed a petition of support for British Green Party MP Caroline Lucas.

The politician was voted into parliament as the MP for Brighton Pavilion in 2010.

She is contesting the seat again ahead of the general election vote on May 7 as the Green Party's sole MP.

A host of famous faces have signed a petition to encourage the re-election of Lucas, with May joined by the likes of Thom Yorke, Billy Bragg and David Attenborough.

The petition reads: "Over the last five years Caroline has eloquently addressed many of today’s most pressing issues – from accelerating climate change to sustainable farming, from human rights to a just and sustainable economy.

"This leadership matters all the more at a time when the mainstream parties are finding it so hard to address these challenges properly.

"Regardless of our own political allegiance, we believe that our democracy can only be strengthened by maintaining such a strong and inspirational presence in Parliament."
