Brian May unveils plaque to honour the late icon Freddie Mercury

Iconic guitarist Brian May, of Queen fame, unveiled a commemorative plaque outside of former bandmate Freddie Mercury's childhood home today.

The circular blue plaque, which can be seen most commonly around London to show historic places of interest, now adorns the property in Feltham, England. During the ceremony, Brian May said:

"This is very strange for me you know, it's about 50 years ago that I met Freddie and I came here to meet his mum and dad and hang out with him. The last thing on Earth we would have thought would be that I would be here at this point commemorating a blue plaque to my friend's memory."

May went onto add that while the ceremony is a great way to celebrate Mercury's life and incredible talent, it's still a melancholy moment because he is deeply missed: "It's a very happy occasion, but with a tinge of sadness because he should be here, he should be still around creating."
