African pop group Elani release love song ‘Kookoo’ in time for Valentine’s Day

After releasing their debut album ‘Barua ya Dunia’, the African pop trio Elani’s new material has been highly anticipated. The group that originated from Bamako have released the infectious love song ‘Kookoo’ in time for Valentine’s Day.

Elani consists of Wambui Ngugi, Brian Chweya and Maureen Kunga who formed the afropop band from a young age. The group met at a Mali musical festival where they were actually competition against each other to win the top spot. However they found they had a major similarity which connected them together; they are all atheists despite living in a religious country.

 

Elani have collaborated and worked alongside major artists such as Jose Chameleone and Sauti Sol and have even featured on the Pakistani music television series Coke studio.
