Artist: EDS Mellow
Much of the world’s most influential music has been born out of difficult circumstances and EDS Mellow has struggled more than many. Born in Haiti - one of the poorest countries in the Americas, blighted by corruption, poor infrastructure and victim to a succession of natural disasters - EDS Mellow (Lener Louis) also had to overcome a fractured family life. Levitate is proof to everyone that great music can come from the unlikeliest circumstances.
Living in Haiti until the age of ten to separated parents, his time with his father was marred by verbal abuse and a strict up-bringing. The time spent with his mother was happier but with few opportunities, leaving her to beg his father to take Lener to America so as to have a chance at a better life.
“He told me many times I will never accomplish anything in my life, I was a waste of life. My father kicked me out before my senior year of high school. I was fortunate to stay at a stranger’s house to finish school. After graduation, I was unsure of what direction to take. I became homeless, I was sleeping in my car, struggling to go to college and worked part-time. I eventually dropped out of school because of my life situation. During those times I became suicidal, I felt like God didn’t care and that my father was right, I was a waste of life but something inside told me to keep pushing, life will get better”.
With this inner strength, EDS Mellow was born – graduating from writing his first tracks in French and Creole to perfecting his English and listening to artists like Chris Brown and Jason Derulo, he began to perfect his own style.
“Music has always been a passion for me, it was my get away from everything. I was always scared and shy to show people my music, due to low self-esteem and lack of confidence."
Now based in Delaware, with the added introduction of Hip-Hop influences, the full EDS Mellow experience is introduced by Levitate.
