Rihanna opens up about new philanthropic role

'Umbrella' superstar Rihanna stopped by the 'Good Morning America' studio this morning (January 29) for a chat and opened up about her new philanthropic role.

She told the host that her involvement with VIVA Glam has now moved into a new dimension and she wants to continue to help people: "I'm now extending my role with MAC from creative partner to philanthropic partner with the VIVA Glam campaign. Buying the lipstick is the most important part of this because 100% of the cost - I mean, every penny you spend on the lipstick or the lip glass - goes to the MAC AIDS fund."

"Our goal is to raise $40 million with the VIVA Glam Rihanna campaign and the MAC AIDS fund will be donating a $2 million grant to UN AIDS, which is a global organisation that focuses on youth prevention of HIV and AIDS."

She went onto add that the "youth are a little more naive to the reality of the disease and how big it really is... how much of an epidemic it is": "More than half of the new infections are in people 24-years-old and under. It's scary."

When asked how she thinks she can get young people to pay attention where other spokespeople for the prevention of the disease might fail, Rihanna said: "The thing about MAC as a brand that I really love and embrace is that they don't judge. They're not here to say 'be perfect', they want you to have fun and I want you to have fun - but, you have to be responsible. Be safe. Protect yourself. You have to look out for yourself because nobody else can do that for you."
