Rihanna on new album: 'I wanted to create something soulful and timeless'

Bajan beauty Rihanna has opened up about her next studio album and teased that the songs are a lot more in the vein of “FourFiveSeconds”.

Speaking to MTV News about the project, she confessed that it will be more 'soulful' than her previous offerings and she's excited about the direction it took when she was recording: "I’ve made a lot of songs that are really, really big songs."

She continued, explaining that she was searching for an authentic sound: "From the jump, they just blow up. And I wanted to kind of get back to — not that they weren’t real music, but I just wanted to focus on things that felt real, that felt soulful, that felt forever.”

The songstress went onto add that with this record, she wanted to record tracks that had a 'timeless' appeal:

"I wanted songs that I could perform in 15 years; I wanted an album that I could perform in 15 years. Not any songs that were burnt out. I find that when I get on stage now, I don’t want to perform a lot of my songs. They don’t feel like me. So I want to make songs that are timeless."
