Rihanna on struggling to fit in: 'I've definitely felt like an outsider'

Bajan beauty Rihanna has opened up about trying to fit in and confessed that there have definitely been times where she has felt like an outsider in various situations.

During a new interview with Britain's Daily Star newspaper, the superstar admitted that she knows what it's like to feel misunderstood and shy:

“People often misunderstand me. Really I’m quite
a shy person. At different points in my life, I’ve felt like the outsider. It always takes so much to overcome that feeling, like moving to a new neighbourhood. You have all these new friends. You’re the outsider. As a kid that is really difficult, even at school. Then again it was difficult moving to America to do my music – I was a 16-year-old girl from the islands.”

Back in April, she told Essence magazine that she has felt like an outsider for most of her life: "I have felt like an outsider ever since my first day of school. I think that's really it. When you are at home, you have this sense of comfort. You belong. It's familiar. It's you."

Rihanna added: "Not until you leave your home and have to be in another environment, supervised by completely different people and around different children, that you're then immediately exposed to new things, new people."
