Sexy starlet Rihanna has been given the title of MTV's 'Rockstar of the Year'.

The international songstress claimed the crown following her unwavering chart success throughout the year, as well as hitting headlines for her ever-controversial personal life. Rihanna was praised by MTV for her "audacious attitude, salacious singles, extreme excess and downright defiant deed," adding; "She did what she wanted, with whomever she wanted, and didn't give a single, solitary f**k about any of it."

Rihanna's 'is-she, isn't-she' relationship with Chris Brown was one of the reasons MTV awarded the prize to the hitmaker. The star didn't shy away from  rekindling her friendship following Brown's assault on his former girlfriend in 2009.

Her willingness  to strip for magazine shoots, along with her '777 World Tour' also played a part in Rihanna winning the 'Rockstar of the Year' award.

MTV claimed: "In a time when a star's every move is covered and analysed, Rih didn't shy away from expressing herself, acting out, getting loud or living her life... she may not be Axl Rose, but she's the closest thing we've got to him. And while that fact might be depressing to some, consider this: Rihanna went from squeaky clean pop star to down and dirty Rockstar in just three short years. At this point, the sky truly is the limit."
