Rihanna revealed as most-streamed female artist on Spotify worldwide

Rihanna has been revealed as the most-streamed female artist on Spotify across the globe.

The Bajan singer came top of the study by the music service, published to coincide with International Women's Day on March 8, followed closely by Britney Spears in second place and Taylor Swift in third.

However, in the UK, Swift was crowned as the most listened-to act, pushing Rihanna into second place. Florence + The Machine's Florence Welch took third and Emeli Sandé fourth.

The most popular track streamed by women in the UK over the last six months was Will.i.Am and Britney Spears' 'Scream & Shout'. Also among British females' top songs were Calvin Harris' 'Drinking From The Bottle' and The Lumineers' 'Ho Hey'.

Rihanna recently admitted that she needs to get close to her collaborators in order to make the best music she can.

She said: "I spend a lot of time with them so they know my story by the time they write, and it's always the truth. At times I won't be rebellious or edgy, sometimes it'll be vulnerable and really innocent but you don't know what bad things that girl might do to get to the vulnerable state!"
