Rihanna wins Topshop image rights legal battle

Rihanna has won her legal case against Topshop over the sale of T-shirts featuring her image.

As previously reported, the superstar singer recently launched a $5m (£3.3m) lawsuit against the clothing company for selling garments emblazoned with a photo of her.

Her lawyers told the High Court in London that Topshop may have "damaged" the singer's reputation by using the unauthorised image, which was taken by a photographer at a video shoot in 2011.

Topshop claimed that they had the rights to use the image as they paid the photographer for the picture.

Judge Mr Justice Birss today (July 31) ruled in Rihanna's favour, concluding that some fans may have been duped by the T-shirt into believing the singer had authorised its sale.

He added that it was not up to Topshop to decide what items of clothing the public thought were authorised by Rihanna.
