Rihanna gets painful tribal tattoo using a chisel

Bajan beauty Rihanna was recently in New Zealand for her tour and stopped by a tattoo parlour to get a new piece of body art.

She got the new inking in Aukland, but chose to get it done the traditional Māori way which involves a chisel, mallet, and pot of ink.

The traditional Ta Moko tattoos are said to be incredibly painful and in the accompanying video, the 'Pour It Up' superstar can be seen grimacing and covering her mouth with her hand while the design is being put into her skin.

She got the intricate design (pictured below), which is comprised of lines and symbols, on her right hand by tattooist Inia Taylor at the Moko Ink studio in West Auckland.

Rihanna took to her official Twitter page last night (October 9) and told her followers that she had a great time in the country, writing: "Bye Bye New Zealand!! I love you!!! Hate to leave....soon."
