Rihanna to receive Icon Award at AMAs

Rihanna is to receive the inaugural Icon Award at this year's American Music Awards.

The coveted prize will be gifted for the first time to the singer at the ceremony on November 24 in Los Angeles.

The award will be the night's biggest honour and will celebrate Rihanna's career so far.

The ceremony's producer Larry Klein commented: "The first-ever Icon Award was created to honour an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time."

The beauty's career has seen the singer release seven albums in seven years since her 2005 debut 'Music of the Sun'.

Her last full effort came in the shape of 2012's 'Unapologetic', which spawned hits such as 'Diamonds' and 'Stay'.

She will also perform at the American Music Awards, where the likes of One Direction and Katy Perry will also hit the stage.

Rihanna meanwhile today (November 15) released the video for her latest single 'What Now'.
