The EE British Academy Film Awards nominations were announced earlier today, with Emmy ® Award winner Ann Dowd nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role as grieving mother Linda, in the Sky Original film Mass.

Since launch, Mass has received widespread, international attention from critics:

“Dowd’s Linda, a career highlight … She’s phenomenal” The Daily Telegraph

“Mass would have been – and absolutely should have been – a major Oscar player” Independent

“Mass is performed with impeccable intelligence and sensitivity” The Guardian

“Dowd and her co-leads put in extraordinary performances, so it's no surprise that many tip them for awards contention” Digital Spy

Set years after an unspeakable tragedy, where two sets of parents (Reed Birney & Ann Dowd, Jason Isaacs & Martha Plimpton) agree to talk in an attempt to move forward. Featuring critically acclaimed performances from the four actors, Fran Kranz’s writing and directing debut thoughtfully examines their journey of grief, anger and acceptance.

Zai Bennett, managing director of content, Sky UK & Ireland says: “Mass has been revered by critics and our customers alike; it’s a thought-provoking, powerful film revealing human connection in its rawest form. Ann Dowd is exceptional and a thoroughly deserving nominee.”

Mass, a Sky Original is produced by Kranz, Casey Wilder Mott, JP Ouellette and Dylan Matlock. The film is available in select cinemas and on Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW via the Sky Cinema Membership.

The nomination for Mass follows two BAFTA Film Award wins in 2021 for Promising Young Woman, which scooped both the Outstanding British Film and Original Screenplay categories, the first time a Sky Original film has won a BAFTA.

Sky Cinema is the home of Sky Original films, with brand new films launching every month alongside an unrivalled range of the latest cinema releases and on demand library.

The BAFTA Film Awards are set to take place in London's Royal Albert Hall on 13 March 2022.
