Sky holds creative and digital experience for pupils at Tonyrefail Community School

• Tonyrefail Community School hosts Sky’s digital skills programme, Sky Up Academy Studios on Tour

• The programme is part of Sky’s ambition to tackle digital inequality by providing support to a quarter of a million digitally excluded people through a dedicated £10m fund

Sky Up Academy Studios On Tour came to Wales on Wednesday as part of its journey across the UK and Ireland. Sky’s touring e-vehicle creative studio includes a pop-up photography studio and a hi-tech digital media suite.

Students of Tonyrefail Community School aged 11-14 worked with Sky trained staff to create their own digital assets about climate change. Students created digital billboards, social media videos and recorded news clips.

Sky Up Academy Studios On Tour is a programme aimed at tackling digital inequality and helping students to develop digital skills as well as knowledge of different careers across the media and TV industry.

Broadcaster John-Paul Davies discussed the importance of developing digital skills which are vital to education and future careers. Davies told students about his hands-on experience of working in the media sector and his time spent presenting Sky Sports programmes.
