Sam Bailey on Syco split: 'I kind of knew it was coming'

Sam Bailey has opened up on her departure from Syco.

The singer signed to Simon Cowell's record label after winning the X Factor in 2013.

Her debut album 'The Power of Love' reached No.1 in the UK, but it was confirmed earlier this week that she is no longer with the label.

Speaking to ITV's Lorraine, Bailey said that she expected the news and is not downbeat about her future prospects.

She said: "Do you know what, I've said it all along, it's like almost people think that's someone's died. It's nothing to be sad about, I am honestly grateful for being with Syco for the time that I was with them.

"And you know if you won a competition to win £10,000 then eventually that £10,000 is not going to be there anymore and it's the same with this, so I kind of knew it was coming."

The Brit added: "I want to be recognised as an artist that's going to write some songs, which is kind of what I'm doing. As soon as the tour has finished I'm in the studio writing some songs, so it's onwards and upwards.

"You know, I like to see the positive in everything and I don't see this as a negative, I really don't."
