Sam Smith on debut record: 'I thought I needed to make a Beyoncé album'

Last night, British singer Sam Smith performed live at the  Greek Theater in Los Angeles and told the crowd that he had 'wallowed for a year' over an unrequited love situation.

Referring to a track called 'I Told You Know' from his debut album, the sensation admitted that he fell in love with someone who didn't return the feeling and he knew he had to come clean about his affection because it was destroying him:

"I put out a pretty depressing album earlier this year. So I sort of wallowed for a year, but I feel much better now."

"I went into the studio and thought I'd make a Beyoncé album. I'm not Beyoncé, if you haven't noticed," he joked. "I called up someone I was really in love with and told him everything and the next day I made this song. It sort of jumpstarted everything."
