Sam Smith teases 'brutal' second album: 'I played it to my makeup artist and she burst into tears'

British superstar Sam Smith has teased that his sophomore record will be 'brutal'.

During a new interview with The New York Times, the hitmaker confessed that his second album will be more honest and revealing than his chart-topping debut, 'In The Lonely Hour':

"This will be the most honest thing I've ever written in my entire life. It's about my mum and dad splitting up, and it's going to be even more honest and even more brutal."

The 'Lay Me Down' sensation went onto add that he played some of his new material for a member of his team and she cried after listening to one of the emotionally driven songs: "I showed my makeup artist the other day and she burst into tears."

Smith, meanwhile, has just landed a total of five nominations at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards and is up for Song of the Year ('Stay With Me'), Best New Artist and Best Lyrics ('Stay With Me'), Artist of the Year, and Dance Song of the Year ('La La La')
