Sam Smith records new James Bond theme: 'I am honoured'

Sam Smith has finally confirmed that he has recorded the new James Bond theme.

The spy film series is due to return from October 26 with Spectre.

The identity of the singer who performs its iconic theme tune has been speculated about for months, with Ellie Goulding hotly rumoured.

However, Smith finally revealed today (September 8) that he has lent his vocals to the Spectre theme, which is called 'Writing's On The Wall'.

He wrote on Twitter: "This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.

"I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.

"I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."

The song has an September 25 release date and it will be available online, on CD and in vinyl format.

On Monday (September 7) Smith teased fans with a Twitter photo of a mysterious ring featuring Spectre's logo.
