Sam Smith is a 'better liar now' for keeping Bond theme secret

Singer-songwriter Sam Smith has revealed that trying to keep his Bond theme news a secret was incredibly challenging.

During an interview with Britain's The Sun newspaper, the superstar confessed that it was really hard trying to throw the press off the trail but it has made him into quite a skilled liar: "You figured it out and then I had to lie through my teeth, which isn't much fun. My lying is really good now, when you say 'genuinely' people believe it."

Smith went onto add that the the film's director, Sam Mendes, gave him some direction while writing the song: "It's his film and vision and there were certain sonics and lyrics he felt maybe weren't working and needed to work in certain ways."

He previously explained to BBC Radio 1 that he penned 'Writing's On The Wall' in just 20 minutes: "I got called into the office with [producer] Barbara Broccoli and [director] Sam Mendes and they gave me the script, I read the script...they said 'have a go at the song'. It's the quickest I've ever written a song - it took 20 minutes...and they loved it! I love the song so much."
