Selena Gomez 'appalled' by online reaction to bikini pictures

Selena Gomez says she was taken aback by the reaction to photos of her in a bikini posted online earlier this year.

The singer received abuse from internet users in April who seemingly indulged in some weight-shaming.

Speaking to Refinery29, the US star said she was disgusted by the levels of hate.

However, it also served as a source of motivation to be "strong" for women like herself.

Gomez said: "It was appalling. I had never experienced that before. I was sad. I was angry. I feel all of it. But I also got motivated.

"I don't want to become little or hurt or a victim. I want to be strong for girls. I just want them to know that there is an option of standing up for yourself."

The singer and actress meanwhile released her latest album 'Revival' on Friday (October 9).

The artwork sees the singer nude.
