Shane Filan tells 1D stars they are not guaranteed solo success

Shane Filan has warned One Direction not to expect instant solo success.

The pop group are set to take a break from March next year to pursue individual endeavours.

It is not yet clear if the four singers will seek to start their own careers, but Filan told the Irish Daily Star that they need good tunes - not fame - to make an impact.

He said: "No one is guaranteed success. It will be impossible for them to have that level of success.

"One or two of them may have big solo careers but it will all be down to the songs. It might not be the one you expect to do well either."

Filan has now gone solo after the split of Westlife in 2012.

The Irishman will release his second album 'Right Here' on September 25.
