New York/Nashville songwriter Marc Scibilia announces his new album ‘Seed of Joy,’ out September 4th. Written over the course of a trying year in which Scibilia welcomed his first child into the world only to lose his father to brain cancer shortly thereafter, ‘Seed Of Joy’ is a resilient collection of uplifting songs with buoyant arrangements to match, blending heartfelt revelations with an intoxicating intimacy.

Lead single “Wild World” is a glimmering track about finding light in darkness, written with hitmakers Mike Sabath (Lizzo, Jonas Brothers) and Jon Nite (Luke Bryant, Keith Urban). A portion of the proceeds from the song will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative, which works to end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality. Scibilia recorded the album in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, playing nearly every instrument and producing it all in his East Nashville basement studio. The album was mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay, John Mayer, Rolling Stones) and also features contributions from Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem), Mike Sabath (Lizzo, Jonas Brothers), Nolan Sipe (Zac Brown Band, Dave Matthews Band), and Jake Sinclair (Panic! At The Disco, Beck).

“A lot of times in life, our suffering feels senseless,” says Scibilia. “But I’ve found that if you can use that pain to create something beautiful, if you can use whatever furnace you’re in to forge something greater than yourself, that gives your suffering meaning, and you can come out of the experience with a deeper understanding of what it is to be human.”

A native of Buffalo, NY, Scibilia’s grandfather was a barber by day and a bass player by night (he came up performing with the legendary Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco), and his father was a talented singer and guitarist. The formative experience of losing his father and celebrating the birth of his daughter coalesce over the course of Scibilia’s album to tell an extremely human story of the glorious highs and tragic lows of life.

“I was watching my father lose his ability to walk at the same time I was watching my daughter take her first steps,” he explains. “I was on these two parallel paths that were so difficult and so beautiful at the same time, and writing music was the only way I knew how to process it.”

Scibilia has collaborated with Ben Rector, Robin Schulz, Jim Jones, Rick Ross and Fabolous, toured with James Bay, Zac Brown Band, Gavin DeGraw, and Andy Grammer, and performed at major festivals including Austin City Limits and Firefly. His breakout hit “How Bad We Need Each Other” has been featured in two global ad spots in 2020 - Samsung’s “Stay Apart, Stay Together” campaign and a Water.org PSA that also features Matt Damon - and his version of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land,” which soundtracked Jeep’s “Beautiful Lands” Super Bowl ad, was the most Shazam-ed moment of Super Bowl XLIX. ‘Seed of Joy’ is his first album in four years.
