The Art Students League Of New York Announces 2020 Fall Exhibition ScheduleVirtual & In-Person Exhibitions On View Now Until The End Of The YearOFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY Shore Fire Media The Art Students League of New York announces their fall 2020 exhibition schedule. The slate of events, which continues throughout the fall, features work by current and former students along with League instructors. The League is proud to be working on exhibitions in partnership with Riverside Park Conservatory and the non-profit organization, ChaShaMa as part of their Exhibition Outreach Program. The League’s Exhibition Outreach (EO) initiative displays the work of League artists in venues throughout the tristate area for viewing by hundreds and thousands of people. Students gain experience entering their work in competition, preparing their work for display, and marketing their work for sale. Since its inception in 2006, EO has placed works by more than 800 artists in more than 200 exhibitions. EXHIBITIONS CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY: POLLINATORS What was meant to be a physical exhibition in partnership with Riverside Park, the Pollinators exhibition has taken on a life of its own. Inspired by the pollinator meadow, a space filled with native flowers and grasses that provide nectar, pollen, and a habitat for bees, butterflies, moths, and caterpillars in Riverside Park, artists explore both the visual language of flora and fauna, and the themes of conservation and change. This show’s mixture of forms, like its musical namesake, celebrates spontaneity and the gathering of distinct styles to create harmony. As the city slowly starts to reawaken, The League and ChaShaMa invite you into the imaginations of artists who have continued composing through the pandemic. Artists featured include: Walter Altamirano, Bruna D’Alessandro, Magdalena Dukiewicz, Debra Friedkin, Yolande Heijnen, John Parnell, Fulvia Zambon. More info here. The exhibition will live online indefinitely. This exhibition presents new works created during the following year by winners of the Merit Scholarship 2019. The scholarships were awarded by an invited jury of professional artists, critics and gallerists. The Merit Scholarship is given in support of full-time study at The League and is made possible by generous donations. The Merit Scholarships are awarded in three categories, Abstract, Realism and Semi-Abstract/Semi-Objective. All the students competing must have studied a minimum of 210 cumulative class hours and bring their physical works in for jurying. Notable teachers who have taken part in this historic tradition include Peggy Bacon, Thomas Hart Benton, William Merritt Chase, and Robert Henri. This year’s exhibition features nearly 100 of The League’s diverse faculty and reflects the broad range of approaches and techniques of these contemporary artists. The Red Dot Exhibition celebrates the exceptional accomplishments of these students. The tradition of the concours (French word meaning “competition” or “contest”) expresses a long-standing commitment to French atelier practices. As these practices were applied in America, and specifically at The Art Students League of New York throughout the twentieth century, the function of the concours has shifted. Today the exhibitions retain a significant competitive aspect with red dots being awarded to the strongest works. This exhibition showcases the recent work of eleven exceptional artists who earned these prestigious grants in 2019 awarded by an invited jury of professional artists, critics and gallerists. Grants offer full-time study at the League, inspirational travel and expansion of artistic practice, made possible by generous donations.
