JJ Wilde’s music has been called “ripe and ready for stereo cranking” (American Songwriter) while also being “emotionally raw” (Earmilk) in its lyrical content, and those claims have never been truer than today with the release of her poignant latest song “Mercy” (out via Black Box).

Of the new song, JJ said: “”Mercy” is a story of revenge. It is about a man who tries to steal something from a woman. Her sense of self, safety, control. He tries, but he does not succeed. We have all wanted revenge at one moment in our lives, whether it's just a thought, or we actually go through with it. In this case, it is taken to the extreme, and she is pushed to the absolute limits. This story/song, like many of my songs, comes from personal experience. A story that has taken me over two years to share. This is the story of Mercy.”

A tour de force of modern rock, “Mercy” is set amidst a storm of swirling guitars and a wall of choral-like vocals while JJ pounds her fists and lets loose a near-animalistic wailing of catharsis as she tells a tale of revenge, turning the tables on someone who’s done her wrong. Inspired by a very real and scary period of her life when the artist was being stalked and harassed by a former neighbor, “Mercy” is empowering in its message of perseverance in the face of the world’s evil.

The track follows “Best Boy”, her IDGAF ode to altering the societal narrative for how women should behave, which spent 4 weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Canada Rock chart. It was her second song to reach the crowning spot on the chart after her smash hit “The Rush” held the pole position for a whopping 19 weeks this summer.

“The Rush” was included on JJ Wilde’s debut album ‘Ruthless’, which earned praise from American Songwriter (“profoundly moving”), Ones to Watch (“soul-stirring”), Alternative Press (“for fans of [The] Struts, Amy Winehouse and YONAKA … kicking ass and taking names”), Atwood (“Fiercely unapologetic”), and Earmilk (“undeniable grit”).

JJ is the first female artist to have a debut single go to number one on all 3 Canadian rock radio formats and spend 10 weeks at number one. She really is one of the most exciting new artists to break into the rock world.
