Skunk Anansie want to play Bataclan gig despite massacre

Skunk Anansie have vowed to perform at the Bataclan in Paris next year despite scores of gig-goers being killed in a terror attack at the venue last month.

A total of 89 people were murdered in the building on November 13 by gunmen as part of a wider attack on the French capital.

US rock band Eagles of Death Metal were playing a show at the time, with Islamic State claiming responsibility.

Skunk Anansie are due to perform at the venue on February 10 as part of a European tour - but singer Skin told Pressparty that they "don't really know" if it will go ahead.

However, they remain adamant that they will take to the stage at the Bataclan if it is open.

The owners of the venue have previously confirmed that they plan to hold gigs again in the stricken building.

She said: "If it's on, we'll do it. We're not cancelling anything.

"We talked about it and we all feel very strongly that if that venue is open then we're going to play it, because we're not going to run away with fear.

"That could happen at any venue we play at the whole tour, so if you cancelled one, you'd have to cancel the whole tour - and then they've won. If we did that, we'd be making whatever the terrorists have done work. Because it's about making everyone scared and instilling fear all over the world."

Skin added that their label boss nearly attended the fateful show, but backed out at the last minute.

She continued: "It's really close to home. Eagles of Death Metal are a band that we all like, and it's a place that's a proper rock venue. They have the same promotions and record company as us.

"Our record company boss was supposed to be there, but he didn't go because he was exhausted. His two friends that did go...they died. It's really awful."
