CMW: Australian Folk Alt-Country Duo Peasant Moon

For Immediate Release: April 11, 2016 (Toronto, ON)

Formed in 2013, Peasant Moon is singer-songwriter Harvey Russell and longtime collaborator Josie Rothwell. Blending late-night folk and intimate, acoustic alt-country, the pair have established themselves on the vibrant Sydney Americana scene. With their 2015 EP Fading in the Light the pair toured regularly and are excited to showcase their music at Canadian Music Week in May.

Drawing on inspiration from acts like the Civil Wars, Lowland Hum, Mandolin Orange, and Ryan Adams, Peasant Moon offer the listener the opportunity to be drawn into their world – one where Harvey’s acoustic guitar and Jeff Tweedy-like vocals fit perfectly with Josie’s sweet, high harmonies and her various percussion and melodica playing.

The key to Peasant Moon’s sound is their sense of restraint and the ability to build gentle drama in their songs. Whether as a duo on-stage or expanded into a full band in the studio, they maintain a mood and atmosphere that may sound tender and comforting but often has an element of tension, with sadness and melancholy lurking beneath the surface.
