Honey Jam 2017 Introduces 15 Canadian Female Artists


Artists represent a diverse range of genres including pop, hip-hop, R&B, soul, blues and rock.

For 22 years, Honey Jam has fostered the development of up-and-coming female artists, resulting in successful alumni such as Nelly Furtado, Melanie Fiona, and Jully Black. The annual Honey Jam Canada Concert returns on Thursday August 24, 2017 at the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. www.HoneyJam.com

WILL is a singer/songwriter and multidisciplinary artist, whom at the age of five moved to Canada from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. WILL considers herself a multi-disciplinary artist who compliments her music with creating hairstyles, fashions, paintings and often directs her own videos. Classically trained in piano, flute and voice, Montreal performer Tyra Jutai began writing songs and learning guitar in her early teens. Her versatility and discipline has enabled her to extend her training to incorporate jazz, blues, rock, electronic, and folk influences into her original work and improvisations. Jet Lyse is a rapper, singer, songwriter and dancer, who recently released #MCDGG “Mega City Diva Girl Gang” produced by her cousin Jor’del Downz and featuring Nessa. Lyse was born in the East end of Toronto and raised in Regent Park and is of Scotian descent. 20-year-old singer songwriter Jazzy Monika blends R&B, soul, reggae and hip-hop into her music. At the age 16, she wrote and recorded with Shawn Morpheus (The Force MD’s) which inspired her to follow her passion for music. She has collaborated with Atlanta producer Cicero on several songs, including “F.O.E” featuring rapper Pressa and is working on her debut EP Mixed Emotions Chpt 1. 19 year old Karis is a songwriter, dancer/choreographer, singer, musician and budding music producer. Growing up in Jamaica, she was exposed to a rich artistic culture that fanned the flames of a passion burning for the arts. Alexandra Hawse is a fearless artist with a vocal range almost as wide as her incredibly eclectic taste in music. The 18-year-old from B.C. has a deep background in classical music and love for the sounds of the British Invasion. Raelene Bailey is a 24 year old vocalist, poet and spoken word artist. This sultry sister speaks of Blackness – love, pain, the struggle and the legacy – using her art forms as an impetus for healing and change. 22-year-old Jenna Bennett has won multiple songwriting competitions and placed first in Centennial’s Got Talent in 2014, bringing her to Los Angeles for the BET Experience. Julia Gartha is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist who is studying Contemporary Writing and Production at the Berklee College of Music on scholarship. Gartha was a reluctant piano student at first, but she soon came to realize that the instrument was the perfect way to express her thoughts and feelings. She has sung the National Anthem at several Blue Jays games. Divine Lightbody is a 16-year-old vocalist currently attending St. Roch Catholic Secondary School in the Arts Program. She has had the opportunity to perform in Nashville, Chicago and her hometown of Brampton to sing for the mayor. Toronto artist Tasha Angela is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter who recently released a debut EP titled Out of my head. Born in Serbia, raised in Greece and currently residing in Toronto, Jana Teovano is a multi-instrumental, acoustic performer with music rooted in indie, pop and new jazz. Capri is a 17-year-old singer, songwriter, dancer & aspiring actor known for the song “Hope” that was inspired by her mother’s battle with breast cancer. The song, which she wrote at age 12, caught the attention of Nelly Furtado who invited Capri to join her on stage to sing at one of her concerts. Capri is currently in the studio, writing and working with producers on her first EP. Surrounded by a family of artists, Milla Sanchez exhibited an intense interest in the arts early on. At 16, Mia attends the arts program at Central Technical School in Toronto, while spending much of her time writing, composing and practicing her craft. Tika Simone is an artist, creator, cultural producer, T.V/Online personality, activist, and advocate for the empowerment of female artists and creators. She is a classically trained musician and performance artist who has been a part of the music/art landscape in Toronto/NYC for over a decade. She is widely known for her work in a diverse range of projects, from her breakthrough role in Trey Anthony’s Da Kink in My Hair, to frequent appearances on MTV’s The Aftershow, to Tika’s own Intimate & Interactive/The Known Unknown.
