Sleigh Bells sue Demi Lovato for copyright infringement

Sleigh Bells have launched legal action against Demi Lovato for alleged copyright infringement.

The group's Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller claim the singer's 2015 song 'Stars' copied their 2010 tune 'Infinity Guitars'.

They say a section of Lovato's song involving hand claps and a bass drum is too similar to their track.

Laywers say Sleigh Bells are looking for "substantial profits" in damages.

Papers filed at a California court said: "A comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as three quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works."

In November last year, Sleigh Bells tweeted Lovato: ".@Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm for "Stars" but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those."

Producers for 'Stars' Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk then issued a statement to deny the accusations.

They said: "We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato's song 'Stars'. Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote the top line."
