Music Festival Streaming Trends Emerging In UK

While major music festivals and large summer gatherings have been put on pause this year, Spotify looked at its streaming data across the UK, as well as conducting research with 2,000 adults, to unearth the big ‘festival’ listening trends of the summer.

Spotify found 30% of people in the UK are hosting their own festival-style summer bashes at home with friends or family, and they’ve been turning to their favourite UK festival playlists to create the experience at home, with Download Festival being the most streamed currently. The annual rock festival saw a staggering 2,004% surge the weekend it was due to take place 12-14 June, compared to week a prior.

With the legendary Glastonbury festival having been due to celebrate its 50th anniversary at Worthy Farm this week, Spotify looked at how listeners have been streaming the 2020 lineup and can reveal Dua Lipa is the most streamed artist amongst listeners in the UK, while UK artist and producer Yussef Dayes has seen a bigger rise in streams (688%) than any other Glastonbury 2020 artist since the official lineup was announced in March. It also seems Park Stage would have driven a significant crowd this year, with the playlist receiving more streams than any other Glastonbury stage official playlist.

When asked about their ultimate Glastonbury headliner Brits named Fleetwood Mac as their top choice, followed by two other legendary icons Elton Johnand Led Zeppelin as nostalgia takes over the theme of the festival this year, in line with the planned programming of festivals of years gone by on our boxes this summer.
