Returning in 2020 for its 5th year, this year’s GRM Daily Rated Awards celebrated the best talent in the UK music scene with the presentation of awards spanning over ten categories recognising some of the scene’s biggest names and their contribution to UK music between 1st June 2019 to 1st June 2020. Taking place as a virtual ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Rated Awards was an immersive experience that took additional measures to produce the award show within COVID-19 guidelines; yet still managed to capture the vibrancy and diversity of the scene like no other award show could. Shot on the streets of London, this love letter to the UK Rap scene highlights the phenomenal success with lyrics “Last year, UK Rap supplied 21% of plays in the country” and “26% of album sales and streams, our self-esteem, now propels the scene”. The performance goes on to pay homage to UK music icons with a lyrical history of UK Rap, from its London origins to the national success of regional stars such as Nottingham’s Young T & Bugsey and Manchester’s Aitch. Dizzee Rascal closed the awards with a 16 minute legacy set showcasing a selection of tracks from throughout his career including “Sittin Here”, “Fix Up, Look Sharp”, “Stand Up Tall”, before finishing with “Bonkers”. Elsewhere on the bill, the awards brought iconic performances from Abra Cadabra with ‘On Deck’, and M Huncho & Dutchavelli’s performance of ‘Burning’.
