The Vamps' James McVey on One Direction 'joint' video: 'They undermined authority'

The Vamps guitarist James McVey has commented on One Direction's new drugs controversy.

As previously reported, a video of the band's Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson apparently smoking a joint in a van in Peru in April emerged online yesterday (May 27).

At one point Tomlinson is apparently heard referring to police outside the van before suggesting that they have got one over the force by smoking an illegal drug.

That in particular has seemingly rankled The Vamps' McVey, who tweeted:

"Just seen something that sucks. Hate seeing people ruin their careers."

He later added: "To clarify, I love one direction... Just.not a fan off undermining authority (sic)."

Replying to fan who said that it was "only pot", the musician said: "It's not that that frustrated me, it was how Louis was talking about the police...Went to a country and acted like that @slutforlxrry :)."

When another Twitter user said that the One Direction duo are "old enough to know what they're getting themselves into", McVey said:

"It doesn't matter who you are or how old you are, if you're a guest in a country you should respect the residents. :) @vampsluke."
