Dermot O'Leary confirmed to return to X Factor as host

Former host Dermot O'Leary has announced that he will "come home" to the X Factor for its next series.

The presenter was axed from the ITV show in 2015 to make way for Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.

However, after the duo recently confirmed their departure, O'Leary's return has now been confirmed.

However, O'Leary has said in a statement: "I'm very flattered to be asked back to the X Factor, and am currently dusting off my dancing shoes.

"There is nothing more exciting than hosting live TV on a Saturday night. The show is naturally very close to my heart, after having hosted it for eight years.

"I'm really looking forward to it, and excited to be back."

X Factor supremo Simon Cowell added: "Dermot's back, hooray! And so is his dancing! Welcome home, Dermot."

As previously reported, The Sun stated back in February that the TV man had signed up to host the show for a ninth series.

Bosses will hope the return of popular host O'Leary will inject some new life into the show, which has seen its ratings drop in recent years and its future called into question.
